This is it

This entry is brought to you by less than four hours of sleep, an inspired brain and no food in the stomach yet.

As the title says it… today is the day.

the delibs/ the defense.

Whatever you want to call it.

What? I woke up early to tell you guys this? Well, that’s because I’m leaving early and will be gone the whole day, that I might be so tired in the evening that I won’t be able to tell you guys what happened at all… if you’re interested anyway.

I’m a bit scared, yes. But I’m determined to do this right. And nothing should stop me now! >_< My mom and I practiced the 'talk' I was gonna give, and hoping that the 'theatrics' would keep their minds off the loopholes if there are any.

Good morning, panelists. I am ______________ and I am here to present my thesis.

My works present landscapes as topographical representations in paintings. As you can see, they are meant to be as floor pieces. This is to provide an aerial view of these representations.

I’m sure, most of you, if not all, are interested to know how I did it.

On this first panel, I pour enamel and acrylic paint simultaneously onto the canvas to achieve a top view of the earth’s dry surface.

On the second panel, to create a look of land meeting water, I pour enamel and melted wax. As the wax cools down, I added oil diluted in kerosene to act as pigments for the wax.

I was somehow amazed of the results on the first two panels, that on I combined them onto the third panel to achieve a majestic view of the earth: land meeting water, and on the dry land, craters, rocks, plant life, topography… such a beauty of the earth.

Most of our artists normally present the landscape as how people ordinarily look at the world—which is land bound. With these conditions, our view is limited owing to obstructions such as man-made structures, plant-life and geographical features. When looking at the landscape from a vertical, aerial or high oblique perspective however, the view becomes notably different. A multitude of surface areas can be seen as they appear on thematic maps created from images captured by satellites and remote sensing systems.

But not all of us are privileged enough to see the majesty of the earth as seen from above. I believe that my works realize an ingenious way of looking at landscapes in paintings.
