The Spook’s Apprentice movie

The Spook’s Apprentice

And here I was squeeing. The announced upcoming Spook movie has changed directing hands. Instead of Tim Burton, as previously announced, it will now be Kevin Lima. [source]

Am a bit apprehensive from the source though. Learning wizardry? Tom nor the Spook don’t have powers, much less be wizards! Sixth sense, yeah, but wizardy? So, um, yeah. I hope they get their facts straight, soon. smiley

About the director, I am not that disappointed, but not eager about it either. Lima directed some Disney movies I liked, eg. Enchanted and A Goofy Movie, after all. But I can’t help feeling that with him at the helm, the movie won’t be something I’d expect it to be: dark, surreal but at the same time warm and familiar.

I’m not sure I made my self clear though. Anyway, I’ll wait and see. 2009 is still far away to judge the whole pre-production. I am still optimistic about this.

For the meantime, I’ll be anticipating the release of the fifth book, The Spook’s Mistake, in June. Oh dear! It’s almost June!

Squee!

Yey! Two great and exciting news! (One great, the other ultimately better)

I’ve made it clear that I am a fan of Joseph Delaney’s the Wardstone Chronicles, yes? (Which I fondly call the Spook Books)

The Spook's Mistake, cover The fifth book , The Spook’s Mistake, will be released earlier this year, June 5th. Now, I just hope I get hold of this book much earlier this year and not wait for 2 whole freaking months. With the other British book out of the picture, I am very optimistic about this.

That’s only the great news.

The exciting news is, there has been an announcement that there’s gonna be a movie based on the first book: The Spook’s Apprentice slated for 2009. And the best thing about this news? Tim Burton is directing. TIM BURTON people!!!

I am filled with so much geek love right now, (and sugar) that I can explode with happiness!!! And don’t forget the Tintin movie (also slated for 2009) and not to mention the Spiderwick Chronicles movie this month.

SQUEE.

A Destiny Unveiled

The Wardstone Chronicles, Book 4: The Spook's Battle

I finally got my book last Friday, but I was only able to read it last night.

And man, it was a good read.

I’m liking Alice, the witch-but-not-really-but-still-one,1 as each book passes. Not because she is a girl, but because of how she thinks and do things. And despite people not liking her because of how she was brought up, she still helps. And it doesn’t help that she kicks ass too.

Tom, of course, is growing up in this book, and bit by bit his destiny is being unveiled. The Beloved’s and my theory about his nature is proven true because of the revelation of his heritage. The seventh son of a seventh son and that is a striking combination, and could prove true to be a powerful thing.

The story is dark, it is basically a sort of horror story for children anyway2 , with all the blood and mild gore, but I have no qualms about it. It is well written and skilfully put together and a recommended read.

On a different note, why do I feel ashamed that I am late in finding out that the Wardstone Chronicles finally have an official site? Somehow I don’t feel like the fan I should be, creating a fan shrine / fanlisting and all. smiley

#ahem#

But the official site is flashy, and I like going around clicking the links. And I finally know how the author, Joseph Delany , looks like! smiley

I must really finish the 5th fanlisting now3 and the redesign of the fan shrine. But first, I need to reread the book.

  1. It’s so hard to explain. I’ll either have to tell you thewhole story or make you read the book
  2. Yes, I read mostly children’s books. Sod off.
  3. For the above mentioned book
