On My Own

Annie of Supaa Kawaii short-lived fame

I have recently moved to an apartment unit by myself to get closer to my new job’s office. With it, a lot of responsibilities:

  • Waking up early in the morning to prepare breakfast and packed lunch.
  • Learning to actually cook to save on money and want to eat good tasting yet inexpensive and simple meals by my self.
  • Waking up early on weekends to do laundry.
  • Allocating a portion of my salary for utilities and groceries.
  • Cleaning house every now and then.

You know, little things I knew how to do but took for granted while I was at my parents’ home. Little things that made me appreciate the things I’ve been taught, though sometimes still feel lazy doing.

There are also perks on living alone. Nobody nagging you to do this and that. Doing things at your own pace, but still do a good job at it. You do things your own way, giving more room for learning. And most of all: No curfews!

Kidding aside, despite all the seriousness of responsibilities, I’m kind of enjoying it. And thinking that this is my training ground for new things to come in my life, it’s a real good start.

On a side note: I feel luckier than my sister, who is going off to college this coming school year. She had been a bit sheltered, so she’ll be thrust into living alone like someone hitting the ground running — a bit unprepared but still need to do it. But there’s no better time for her to learn than soon.

It has been a while

My last post was January? Oh wow.

Normally, there can only be two reasons why I haven’t posted for so long. It was either I got lazy, or I have been too busy. Turns out there can a third one — so many things have happened in a short span of time, I didn’t know where to start.

So the best way to somehow summarise all that’s happened? Bullet points. smiley

  1. I have moved into my own place since February 1st.
  2. I have learned on how to fend for my self.
  3. I have gained so and so pounds.
  4. Walking only three blocks to work helps.
  5. I’ve learned how hard it is to live on your own.
  6. But had fun doing it.
  7. Close friends moved almost next door.
  8. We got engaged.
  9. Is excited.
  10. Gained so and so pounds again.
  11. Needs exercise.
  12. Been busy with paperwork.

When your past weeks have been summarised into bullet points, it somehow lacks the actual luster of what actually transpired. Will have to try and catch up soon.

You’ll just have to trust me on this — it’s been a heck of a start for this year.
