Project Download

I support Project Download, the only thing is, clicks from my country of origin doesn’t count. =_=

So what I can do is share this to everyone who comes from a country that can be counted! So please pass to anyone you know who can help. The list of countries that can participate can be found at the bottom of the page here.

from cleolinda at Movie in 15 Minutes:

Erin (redscorner) needs surgery for cranial lesions and Chiari Malformations and can’t afford it. She has recently suffered gamma knife radiation, seizures, and severe memory loss. (For those of you outside the US: Yes, US health care and insurance really does suck that bad.) I’ve been trying to help out projectdownload for a couple of months now; you can read all about it there (or at her FAQ). It’s also been linked by Neil Gaiman, Will Wheaton and Something Positive. Here’s what it is: she doesn’t want your money. Repeat: she doesn’t want your money. What she’s trying to do is reach five million downloads at MegaUpload, which will net her a $10,000 reward. So she’s uploaded a perfunctory “Thanks for downloading” .txt document that takes all of two seconds, literally, to download, and a number of us have been downloading this once a day. Last I heard, she was up to 143,508 points.

So what I’m asking y’all to do, if you could, if you felt inclined, is to join us in clicking this link daily (it’s a direct download; you don’t even have to fool with MegaUpload’s website). If you don’t feel like this is something you want to do, that’s fine. But what I’m going to do with “The Golden Compass in Fifteen Minutes” is post it as .rtf and .pdf files on Monday, rather than post it as an actual entry here, so that people downloading the file to read it will count towards getting Erin the funds she needs for surgery. The way I look at it is, you’re not giving anything up except two seconds of your time, and even if I can only persuade you to click this one time on Monday, to get the Fifteen Minutes file, you’re still getting something in return. But if we could get a small army of people clicking daily, we could actually accomplish this a lot more quickly than you’d think. I have a hard time believing that, with the millions of things that millions of people click on the interwebs, we couldn’t do this if enough of us kept at it long enough. So: please help?

Please pass it on to anyone else you know that can really help.
