Of Recycleables and Scraps
Last March 19, the beloved and I, after eating our homecooked meal, went to the nearest mall to watch the latest from the makers of Ice Age.
And yes, am sounding like a long-winded reporter here
#ahem#
Visually, it was stunning. The first 10 minutes of the movie, hun and I can’t stop commenting about the treatment of the lighting and the objects on screen. Yes, for goodness sakes, it was CG and all, and metal objects are the easiest that CG can be manipulated. But the fact that it felt like steel or metal or whatever was unbelievable. You could almost belive that the character is an old beat-up metal, with those corroding parts and all.
Story-wise, it was your average “children’s” story with a moral. It’ll be a long way before the white men can deviate from “animation is for family, most especially kids” taboo. But heck, the story was enjoyable as well. Not to mention all the funny and witty lines thrown here and there. If you’re a geek (like me and so many I know) you’ll get some of teh hidden stuff as well. Well… there are also some hidden innuendos I think– but I didn’t understand them at all. And the scenes! I definitely love the “Ride from the Airport” and the (as an LJ friend dubbed it) “Britney Gears” scene. I just couldn’t stop laughing.
Voice-acting, is okay. But it gets better because of one man– Robin Williams. I loved him as the voice of the Genie in Aladdin, wacky and funny. And him lending his voice to the craziest robot in the movie, is such a treat!
Anyway, all in all– I highly recommend it. If you’re a kid or at least a kid at heart. I’d have no problem watching it on the big screen again (if only cinema tickets were as cheap as … wait, what IS cheap nowadays?). I’d also, definitely, buy it on VCD (DVD, if I only had a player). ^__^
