NaNiNuNeNo
I’m in deep water now. I just signed up for NaNoWriMo.
Now for the uninitiated, November is = NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month. Starting November 1, the goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.
Sounds scary? You betcha!
Sounds crazy? Oh yeah!
Beneficial? Hell, yeah!
Description from the Official Site is much more helpful in this:
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.
As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and — when the thing is done — the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.
I have always wanted to write a story. I have so many ideas, so many notes time and again, but I never got to start or finish. Hopefully, this will help. And hopefully I can get back to writing again. I haven’t been writing for 7 years (longer than I haven’t been able to paint), and it’s about time I get back to sitting on my bed with a mountain-pile of notes under my pillow.
And yes, it’ll be a lot of written crap. XP
So to commemorate this project, I have created ka_tharsis to track my progress. Because if I don’t track my progress, I will most likely forget about it.
I’ll be putting up my old fics there as well to archive them.
AND I will also be posting my current progress with my side projects– namely web designing & development.
Two different things, but with one goal in mind–
To release all pent up emotions, plans and ideas that have long been inside my head — hence catharsis (but someone already beat me to the word, so I had to settle with ka_tharsis, sucks XP)
Anyway~ yeah~ XP
I’m babbling again. Mwahahaha.
Anyway, yeah. If you wanna see what I’m up to, just add ka_tharsis to your watch/ friends list.
