Man on a Mission

Due to the prodding and contagious enthusiasm of the beloved, I pimp to you (is that even a verb?) Densha Otoko.

Densha Otoko

Densha Otoko is J-Drama based on a true story that happened in a Japanese online BBS. It’s about an otaku who fell in love with a beautiful girl. And since he doesn’t know how to go about courting the girl, he asks advise from a single’s thread in an online messageboard. And the story, and the hysteria, begins.

Just for info, Japanese otakus are what we call, super anime nerds– i mean, exceptional anime enthusiasts. And stereotypically, they are, looked-down upon by the main society. So just imagine the other things the guy has to consider in courting this high-class lady.

I’ve watched this through the end. It’s hilarious, it’s endearing and it made cry a bit a few times (owing to the fact that I am a bit on the sensitive side). And I could almost relate to everyone in the story. And yes, AME, you too!

Forgive the all caps when I say YOU MUST WATCH! I really don’t pimp shows unless I truly believe in them smiley

For more info regarding this J-Drama, here’s a link.

x-posted through LJ. Just so it is indeed major pimpage smiley

ETA: More of my insights on this series after the jump.

What I really really like about this series?

  • Almost all the actors are properly typecasted into their characters.
The actor who plays the otaku, fits the role. The actress who plays the high-class lady fits it. They all fit into their charas like a well-fit shoe. From the determined anatgonist to the BBS lurker. (yes– fit. fit. fit)
  • I could relate to almost everyone– and almost every character endears to me.
  • LOL. I could also relate to the *online* aspect of this drama. The way people post things about their life online. smiley
  • The romantic-comedy part. I’m a sucker for such things.
  • There is no dull or passing moment. If there is, you probably won’t notice it.
  • And the comedy! Hilarious!

#ahem#

I shall stop my online raving and let you get on with your life smiley

But I will continue pimping it to everyone I know.
