Avenue Q Cast

Avenue Q Cast, originally uploaded by Our Awesome Planet.

Team Sugoi and I got to catch Avenue Q’s Farewell Run last weekend, June 20th. I’ve always been fascinated by plays and musicals, and I always welcomed the compulsary attendances to such back in college. The last time I sat in a theater for a play was back in college too!

I’ve also been hearing alot of raves from friends and online forums about the show so I wanted to see it when I heard a local production will be showing it. I wasn’t able to watch it during the first couple of runs though. It was either I found out too late or I didn’t have the money for a ticket.

When I found out that they’ll be running it again for the final time, I didn’t waste any chance and pulled Flori to help score tickets as early as April. And score tickets we did– We got seats from the second row!

And when the night came, all the raves proved true. IT IS AWESOME! smiley

The songs are catchy, the melody engaging and the story hits a bit close to home. If I was watched this back in my year after college, the theme would strike true and hard. The search for one’s purpose, being depressed as your sucking self and the real life issues of being just out of college. Those are not my issues right now, but they are still very relatable. Some of the jokes are also very rooted in the American culture that I didn’t get it at times, but they are still very funny.

One important lesson that they shared: Everything, aside for death and taxes, is only for now. So true.

And the full puppet nudity? Trekkie Monster’s mantra? The slow-motion dream sequence? Priceless, priceless, priceless.

After this, I’m watching Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella with Ami on August. I feel so cultured now. smiley

The modern-day adaptation of Jules Vernes’ Journey to the Center of the Earth looks pretty interesting and enjoyable.

Jack Black as Po, the Kung Fu Panda

Jack Black as Po, the Kung Fu Panda

There is no charge for awesomeness. And attractiveness.

And yet I’d pay to see this movie again for its awesomeness, and I am not kidding about that.

Kung Fu Panda is a movie about a lazy but Kung Fu fanatic panda who finds himself being chosen as the one who will save the Valley of Peace against an impending evil. With it he must earn the respect of his master and his idols and ultimately find his destiny.

A movie targeted for kids, adu– kids at heart– will enjoy this movie. Jack Black does his role well as the irreverent and lazy panda. And the animation fully embodies his character because all his actions remind me so much of the actor who voices him (especially the intro, which about killed me, in a good way).

The rest of the characters aren’t that bad either. And the references to classic kung fu movies (and a game, as The Beloved said) added to the experience. And the treatment of mixing up the 3D and 2D animation is well done.

Despite some of the cliches (hey, this is still a kiddie movie), it was thoroughly enjoyable. There really was no boring part and it was indeed made of awesome.

And like I said, I am planning to watch this movie in the big screen again. This time, with my sister and probably a pair of shades.
