Catching Up

[I'll be random today. Humor me]

I’ve been very very busy.

Busier than usual. There are pending projects lined up and I still couldn’t start them because of work. Work that leaves me exhausted everyday. That’s why I really look forward to weekends– especially long ones.

I wanna exercise too since am getting badly out of shape, but I can’t even have time for it too!!! *cries*

The only way to relieve me is anime & manga fixes, book fixes, and movies~

The only anime & manga fixes that I could have are mostly advised by Teh Beloved and I could only watch every other weekends. I could burn them on CDs, but my monitor has went color blind and very very picky about CD brands that she’ll read.1

Anyway, yeah. So I can only watch some stuff at his PC at home or at the office.2

As for my book fix, my pinky obssession3 has taken over it (for the meantime). Most especially because of my funding– money for books is now money for pinkys. I wanna hate them, but I can’t.

As for movies~ I can only watch when I have money ^^;; < -- since I really wanna watch movies on the big screen.

Going back to anime and manga fixes, am going to recommend a few that has been suggested to me which I look forward to continuing once I get more free time.

Anime

Teh Beloved has suggested Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When Cicadas Cry). It’s a mystery suspense anime disguised as a cutesy shoujo harem show — when it really is a creepy mystery suspense anime XP

It is based on a mystery game revolving around a group of young friends and the strange events that occur around them. There are different endings (I have yet to find out which ending is the true ending) and each giving a certain clue at what the real undercurrents of the mystery.

I am seriously creeped out by this– it is filled with blood, gore and twisted characters. But the story is so engrossing, I can’t stop watching!!!

For more info on this, you can go to it’s wikipedia entry

Then there is Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

At midnight every night, you can access Jigoku Tsuushin online. If you type in the name of someone who you have a grudge against there, Jigoku Shōjo will appear and send that person to hell. Rumors of the site spread among children living in cities. However, no one speaks of one thing, that you must make a contract with the Jigoku Shōjo to carry out revenge against your grudge.

That mainly says it all, and it’s quite interesting to see the various cases that could get someone to want vengeance. I have yet to finish the series, because of my standing PC options, but it’s a curiosity. I would definitely want to continue watching.

Manga

I don’t have many options on manga recently, but if I get to find some they’re really worth reading.

For light-hearted but meaningful stories, there’s Yotsubato! It’s a story about a naive little girl who discovers the world around her with great zest.

Though there seems to be no central plot, the main focus of the manga story is purely Yotsuba’s voyage of discovery. Within that process, the reading audience is on the same voyage to discover more about the characters, especially Yotsuba.

It’s also funny that when Yotsuba discovers something, the adults learn something as well.

20th Century Boys

Ain suggested 20th Century Boys. A seinen manga by Naoki Urasawa. It is an engrossing read where past overlaps the present and future scenarios.

Growing older is pretty rough and Kenji is finding out just how hard it can be as life starts wearing down on him. On top of trying to make ends meet running a convenience store he has to care for the niece that his missing sister left in his care. Memories of youth make it easier, until those memories come back to haunt him.

Kenji and his old friends are slowly being drawn into a mysterious conspiracy that could threaten the world. Who is the mysterious “Friend” and how does he tie into Kenji’s youth? Why are there disappearances and deaths tied into Ochanomizu University? Their memories hold the keys to the puzzle, but time and age have clouded their minds.

The strange occurrences and the reach of the “Friend” conspiracy grow by the day. It will all culminate on New Year’s Eve 2000. Will Kenji and the others be able to put together the puzzle and save the world?

The tale truly begins during Kenji’s childhood years, in the late ’60s to early ’70s. The events that occur here are mostly seen through flashbacks, but several times it has been visited to expand on certain points in the current storyline.

It’s really an interesting engrossing read. I can’t count the number of times I kept shouting who “Friend” could be. And every single time I’d be wrong. I can’t wait for the last few chapters to be translated– I can’t wait to know how it all ends!!!

Will it even end?!?

I suggest these anime shows and manga reads~ If you want links for download, you know where to find me. I think.

Hnm. That’s about it. Just a random entry XP

  1. I think Blue — my home PC — is getting old T__T
  2. Which is not really adviseable as I have lots to do, but I do anyway. Rarely anyway since I can’t watch it with sound… you get the idea.
  3. Why don’t you say hi to my little girls at In/Animate? They’d love that ^__^
