The geek in me is laughing

Last April 4, I read a news that would’ve made the human interest headlines. “Star Wars Nerds are lining up at Grauman’s, a movie theater at Los Angeles, a month (and a half? before midnight showing) for tickets.” No big deal right?

Except, it turns out that the movie is not showing up at Grauman’s. At all! Again, no big deal right? The whole line could simply move to the right theater and wait for the day.

But they didn’t. They’re staying at Grauman’s as protest. WTF?

1. The Star Wars line is still outside of Graumans.
2. Graumans has confirmed that Star Wars will not be playing at Graumans.
3. Arclight has confirmed that Star Wars will be playing at Arclight.
4. The Star Wars line is pissed because they think Star Wars should be at Graumans, not at Arclight, so they are not moving the line in protest.

And the tales get jucier. While people are noticing the line and making fun of them, they stay still. There have also been news of nerd cliques and infighting within the line. And by golly, they have been even more elitist about it.

But with good humor, people try to understand them. Visiting them, bringing them pizza and answering their phone calls.

And eventually, after all the “We will not move” mantra, they buy the Arclight tickets!!! *gasps* After what? A week?!

The whole Star Wars Line coverage is at blogging.la, and I am actually keeping tabs on it. Why?

Being a self-confessed geek, I want to relate to them. I want to understand why in the world they would stay in the wrong line in protest. But no, I still don’t. I like Star Wars, I like Star Trek. But I can wait til it shows in a regular time at the cinemas if I don’t get premiere tickets. I’ll admit, the line is a big social event and it may actually be fun being with people as the same interests as you are. But the fact that you’re mad at people for noticing you, and telling you the truth that it’s foolish to actually stay in the wrong line?!

*gasp*

I’ll let you do that. I’ll just go to McDo and line up in protest for them to have those yummy cinnamon rolls the way Cinnabon makes them. Pfft.
